NEWSMaritime Experiential Programme 20164|The Maritime Experiential Programme (MEP) is a concerted effort by MaritimeONE* to reach out to upper secondary school students to promote awareness of maritime education and career options available through visits to key maritime establishments. Four sessions were organised in May. SSA was the lead organiser for two days: 13 and 20 May 2016.On these two days, three schools registered more than 260 students for the day long learning journey. The schools were Bedok Green Secondary School, Woodgrove Secondary School and Yuan Ching Secondary School. The classes were given different itineraries which allowed them to visit restricted maritime facilities such as the Pasir Panjang Port Terminal, Jurong Port Terminal, Keppel Shipyard and Tuas Shipyard. At the Pasir Panjang PortTerminal, students were in awe of the Car Carriers/Ro-Ro and the multi-storey carpark specially built to keep all the brand new cars. Students also enjoyed a ferry ride around Singapore waters, where they witnessed various port, terminal and offshore operations in action.Interesting facts and valuable insights about Maritime Singapore were shared bythe friendly and engaging guides during the tour around the Singapore Maritime Gallery at Marine South Piers. A lucky group of students were given the opportunity to visit PSA Marine where they learned about the maritime careers, such as harbour pilot and were exposed to the mission command centre and technical services workshop.*About MaritimeONELaunched in April 2007 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) andSingapore Shipping Association (SSA), MaritimeONE (Outreach Network) is a key platform for all maritime stakeholders to synergise efforts to raise awareness of the maritime industry among students and their influence groups, and to interest them in maritime education and careers via various outreach initiatives.
