SMW 2016 SSA Maritime Learning JourneyA one-day Maritime Learning Journey was organised for SSA members during Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) on Thursday, 21 April 2016.The day started with a ship tour of two ultra-modern high- technology Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs) ‘VOS Prince’ & ‘Pacific Legacy’ at the inaugural OSV@Vivo Open House at the Waterfront Promenade at Vivo City. Exhibits of high technology equipment, products and services from Singapore-based companies were also onboard the two OSVs. Participants were given the rare opportunity to explore the inner workings onboard the OSVs, with Ship Ambassadors all around the vessels to answer any questions. Attendees were pleasantly surprised about the neat accommodation areas and the presence of the recreational area and gym onboard the OSVs.The second stop was the Singapore Maritime Gallery (SMG) at Marina South Pier. The friendly and engaging SMG guides shared interesting facts regarding Maritime Singapore. The last stop of the day was the ferry ride from Marina South Pier to Pulau Satumu, Singapore’s southernmost island where the Raffles Lighthouse is located. It is only during the SMW that MPA provides thisexclusive opportunity for the public to visit restricted access areas such as the Raffles Lighthouse. Participants were able to climb up to the top of the lighthouse tower; 88 spiralling steps to the glass- panelled dome that sits 29m off the ground, about six storeys up. From the top of the lighthouse tower, they were treated to a scenic and tranquil view of the Singapore Straits. Participants were also excited to speak with the lighthouse keeper, Mr. Mani. All in all, the day went well and it was an interesting experience for all participants. The Secretariat hoped all participants enjoyed and benefitted from the Maritime Learning Journey. For those who missed out this time around, do look out for our Maritime Learning Journey circular in March/April next year!|27MEMBER EVENTSYEG Community Outreach: Willing Hearts Soup KitchenThe Association is a strong advocate for giving back to society and organises regular community outreach events for its members through the SSA Young Executives Group (YEG).
