Keeping up

safety
standards

Keeping up to date with ever-changing regulatory demands

for lifesaving appliances, ire protection and ire-ighting
equipment and systems onboard cruise vessels can be a

logistical headache for many operators.

However, Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) outlined
how it could manage these burdens for global cruise

customers when attending the recent Cruise
Shipping Miami event.

Jennifer Menard, WSS Technical Services
Director Americas, said she believed what

sets WSS apart from its competitors is its
unrivalled worldwide reach.

“Having a truly global network gives us
the opportunity to offer the same type and

standard of safety service, for a pre-agreed

ixed fee, regardless of where in the world
our customers’ vessels operate.”

Keeping crew and passengers safe
is the number one priority whilst at

sea and WSS offers a wide range of ire
protection equipment, accessories and

spares, including ire extinguishers, hoses,
ire system products, smoke detectors and

appropriate storage.
All of the safety products are compliant

with varying local regulations and international
standards and offer cost eficiency, ease of use and

peace of mind and are supported by WSS’s global

service network.
WSS has safety service centres in major cruise locations

including Miami, Barcelona, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, New York,
Yokohama and Sydney and says it is able to control the quality and

delivery of the numerous service job it offers.
Eliminating the need for expensive lying squads, or reliance on unknown and often unreliable sub-contractors, WSS says it

offers its customers a clearly priced, standardised, global safety service package.
WSS safety service technicians carry out services on a wide range of safety, ire-ighting and rescue equipment such as CO2 high-

pressure systems, portable ire extinguishers, hydrants and ire hoses, inlatable life jackets, smoke sampling systems and portable gas
detectors, while WSS’s Safety Service 360 Fleet Agreement offers consistency both in the provision and standard of work.

“Allowing us to synchronise service jobs depending on our customers’ demands, the Safety Service 360 agreement makes

servicing on ire-ighting, rescue and personal protection equipment fast and well organised,” said Ms Menard.
Every WSS service station is kitted out with state of the art test equipment and operates in accordance with IACS, UR, Z17

approvals and governance. All of its qualiied service technicians are trained and assessed using the same curriculum and standards.
WSS is also the only service network to be granted an ISO 9001 approval and holds service approvals from DNV GL, Korean

Register, Bureau Veritas, ABS, Lloyds Register, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and RINA. u
