Paul Jaenichen

Administrator, United States Maritime Administration (MARAD)


Paul “Chip” Jaenichen, from Brandenburg, Kentucky, served as a nuclear trained Submarine Oficer in the US Navy for
30 years. Last July he was appointed Maritime Administrator by President Barack Obama. He previously served as 
both Deputy and Acting Maritime Administrator from July 2012 to July 2014. Captain Jaenichen’s shore tours included assignments 
as Deputy Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Department of the Navy and as Chief, European and North Atlantic Treaty Organization 
(NATO) Policy Division on the Joint Staff where he was responsible for military-to-military engagement with all 26 NATO nations.






Fotis Karamitsos

Acting Deputy Director General and Director within the Directorate General for 

Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) of the European Commission

Fotis Karamitsos is responsible for the development and follow-up of the implementation of maritime transport policy, 
maritime safety, environmental protection, as well as logistics, land transport and passenger rights. Between 2008 and 2010, Mr 
Karamitsos was also responsible for the setting up the European Satellite Navigation System GALILEO and for setting the regulatory 

framework for the Intelligent Transport Systems. Mr Karamitsos has worked for the European Commission for over 30 years, where he 
has worked on various transport issues. He has previously worked with the World Health Organisation’s programme on Greater Athens 
Pollution Control and in the Greek Academic and Public Sectors.






Jari Kauppila

Senior Economist, International Transport Forum, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development

Jari Kauppila works as a Senior Economist at the International Transport Forum (ITF) at the Organisation for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France. Jari has also coordinated several international research projects 

on topics such as logistics, transport, reliability, road safety and infrastructure investment. He previously spent eight years as Lead 
Economist with the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Finland. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Transport Economics at the 
Department of Operations and Supply Chain Management at the Turku School of Economics in Finland.






Emily Maitlis

BBC Journalist and Presenter of BBC Newsnight and the News Channel

Emily Maitlis is an award-winning journalist who is one of the most recognised faces on television news. She is part of the

presenting team on BBC2’s Newsnight, which included a recent stint as Political Editor. She is also a regular News Channel 
anchor. She also works alongside David Dimbleby and Jeremy Vine covering all general, local and US elections. Emily has previously 
worked as a documentary maker and in 2011 she secured an exclusive television interview with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg
, which formed the basis of her BBC2 documentary Inside Facebook: Zuckerburg’s $100 Billion Gamble. The show won the Harold 
Wincott Business Programme of the Year Award in 2013.






Jeremy Penn

Chief Executive, Baltic Exchange and Chairman of the LISW15 Steering Group


Jeremy was appointed Chief Executive of the Baltic Exchange in 2003, following 20 years with Reuters Group PLC
where he held a wide range of positions specialising in technology and marketing related to inancial information. He was 
Managing Director of Reuters Asia and was appointed to the Reuters Executive Committee in 1996. He is also a Non-Executive Director 
and Treasurer of Maritime London. He is a director of Maritime UK and sits on the Supervisory Board of the UK Chamber of Shipping.
