YEG Educational Talk & Networking SessionsMEMBER EVENTSLegislations in China - Burning of Low Sulphur BunkersMaritime Arbitration - Its Development in Singapore and SCMAOn 13 July 2016, Ms. Teo Hwee Ping, Director (Business Development), SCMA presented on the development of Maritime Arbitration in Singapore and introduced the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) to the 29 participants from the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and Young Executives Group (YEG).In her presentation, Ms. Teo also spoke on the different methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution, and explained why Arbitration is the best option. She also shared some hearing room pictures and the interesting fact that arbitrators may prefer certain rooms as they feel they perform better in those particular rooms. The talk went well and attendees found the session informative and useful.Mr. Ollie van der Zee (R), YEG Committee member presenting a token of appreciation to Speaker, Ms. Teo Hwee Ping (L)Mr. Akshat Arora, Marine Surveyor at The Standard Club Asia Ltd facilitated a discussion on the Legislations in China with regards to the burning of low sulphur bunkers. Held on 18 May 2016, more than 25 participants from the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and Young Executives Group (YEG) attended this talk.As there are growing concerns on how shipping contributes to air pollution in China, Mr. Arora shared the plans of the Chinese Ministry of Transport toMr. Ollie van der Zee (L), YEG Committee member presenting a token of appreciation to Speaker, Mr Akshat Arora (R)set up emission control areas (ECAs) in 2015. He also spoke on the requirements under MARPOL Annex VI, the timeline on the ECA plans in China and the Penalties and Fines announced in February 2016.
