MEMBER EVENTSYEG 10th Anniversary Celebrations32|The SSA Young Executives Group (YEG) celebrated its 10th anniversary on 26th May 2016 with a forum session themed ‘Embracing our Maritime Heritage – Charting Our Maritime Future’. The two-part educational forum was held at the PSA Building Auditorium, Level 40, with more than 200 attendees amongst which included students from the Singapore Maritime Academy, and members from the SMF YES! Club and Maritime Youth Club.The Anniversary Forum kicked off with an opening speech by SSA President Mr Esben Poulsson, where he highlighted the importance of developing the next generation of leaders in the maritime sector, something which is very important to the SSA. Also in attendance was Guest- of-Honour, Mr. Andrew Tan, Chief Executive, Maritime and Port of Singapore, who graced the event by delivering a keynote address. Professor Wang Gungwu, Chairman of East Asian Institute (NUS), Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies spoke about the maritime interaction of China and Singapore and touched on the importance of understanding the Chinese thinking. Professor Peter Borschberg of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, spoke on the maritime history of Singapore before 1800, the old and new straits ofSingapore, how its geographic location was visualised, and development plans for the island by early colonial powers.This was followed by the panel discussion on “Charting our Maritime Future” moderated by Mr. Esben Poulsson. During the panel discussion, live polls were conducted.
