Mr Hinchliffe praised the proposal by

the Secretary-General of the
International Maritime Organization

(IMO) for those UN agencies concerned
with the plight of migrants and refugees

at sea to combine their resources in an
inter-agency approach.

Meanwhile, the International
Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) has

argued that unverified stories on social

media have become a significant factor
in major maritime search and rescue

(SAR) events.

Development Meeting that they

needed to be prepared for the media
onslaught that accompanied SAR

incidents and exercises.
